SUMMIT DVD SERIES

What value do you bring to those within and outside of your immediate sphere of influence?

We all know that we could do more and we often feel guilty for not doing enough. What are your excuses for not engaging?

  •   I don’t feel comfortable in taking risks?    You don’t have to feel comfortable!

  •   But I don’t have discretionary income.  You don't need it!

  •   But I don’t have much to offer to anyone?  You have more than you think!

  •   I am busy – I don’t have time to spare.   Just give what little you have!

  •   I am not trained and don’t have skills.  Be prepared to get trained!

  •   I can’t make a significant difference?    Yes you can!

Join us for a Video / Discussion series to hear compelling stories of people who have changed their worlds using whatever they had. God did not ask them to be great, He only asked them to be obedient.

Hear how Wess Stafford came out of an abusive situation to now lead Compassion International. Listen to the story of how Jessica Jackely, a young graduate, managed in just three years helped raise over $61 million and connected thousands of people across 120 countries to raise money for the poor. Based on the presentations given at the Willowcreek 2009 Leadership Summit, you will hear from these and other heroes. You will have opportunity to explore how their experiences align with Biblical heroes to inspire you to discover how God wants to use you to change your world.

TEN COMMANDMENTS REVISITED

A study of, and discussions on, the Ten Commandments.

Then: At the holy mountain - Horeb/Sinai

Who were these wandering tribes in the desert and what did they think.

How might these laws have changed them?  Did they?

Half way to now (about): In New Testament times.

How were these now well known laws understood and applied?  Who were these people?

Now: Here

Who are these people and what do they think?

How should these ancient laws affect the way we live?

A teaser:

Then their culture and worldview pressured them to accept and worship a host of gods.

God said to them; Worship only ONE!

Now our culture and worldview pressures us to accept and worship no gods at all.

God says to us; There is God.  Worship him!

CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVES ON THE BIBLE, CREATION AND EVOLUTION

Objectives

Sometimes the Creation vs. Evolution debate is presented as a very simplistic either-or issue: Either you are a Christian who believes the world as we know it was created by God, some five to ten thousand years ago, in six 24-hour days as recorded in Genesis, or you are an atheist who believes we are the result of millions of years of natural evolution without any need of a God.

The objective of this module is to show that it is not a simple either-or issue and that there is a fairly broad spectrum of beliefs between these two extremes held by committed, bible-believing Christians.  In spite of the significant publicity in the media highlighting Christians insisting that creationism should be taught in schools as an alternative to evolution, there are in fact also many Christian scientists who accept evolution as a fact.

The module will give a very high-level overview of a few of the main issues in the debate and introduce participants to some of the vast array of books and other resources dealing with this issue from various Christian viewpoints.

The following are some of the topics that will be discussed in this module

How should we read and understand the Bible in general and the early chapters of Genesis in particular.

Historical perspectives, including the Galileo affair

Young earth creationism

Old earth progressive creationism

Evolutionary Creationism (also known as Theistic Evolution)

The Intelligent Design movement

TEACHING PARENTS HOW TO TEACH KIDS ABOUT MONEY

"Teaching Your Kids about Money"

Very often when we run a Good Sense Budgeting Seminar we are asked :

"How do we help our kids avoid the same mistakes that we made?"

This is a 2 hour seminar for parents of kids of all ages. We will explore

questions like:

When should we start giving an allowance, and how much should we give?

How do we teach them good stewardship principles like giving, saving, and

spending wisely?

Should we tie money or allowance to behavior and helping around the house?

How do we teach them to budget and to manage their money wisely?

What, and when do they need to know about debt, debit cards, and credit

cards?

And much more!

Please note that this one is not for kids, but for parents only.

SCIENCE AND CHRISTIAN FAITH

One of the major driving forces in society today is scientific and technological development. It influences our lives on a daily basis. However, for many people, science and faith are in a state of irreconcilable conflict. This module will examine the origins and the consequences of that conflict on both believers and non-believers. Most of the module will address a view of nature, and the physical laws of the universe, as a revelation of God’s attributes to man. A number of elegant examples from science will be given and we will discuss how they can inform us on the nature of God and lead us to a deeper form of worship.

“Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.”

-Albert Einstein

DEBT REDUCTION

Personal debt is one of the most serious issues facing our society today. It is destroying families, relationships, lives. It is a major contributor to a multitude of stress-related diseases. And it is a weight that we were not meant to bear.

There is a way out.

This is an interactive 2 hour workshop that will give you:

  • A biblical perspective on debt

  • A seven-step strategy for getting out of debt and staying out

  • Answers to frequently asked questions about practical debt management

  • Actions steps to immediately begin the journey towards freedom from debt

Don't be shy or embarrassed. This is for everyone who has even some debt. You don't have to be in financial trouble to benefit from this workshop.

COUNSELING

It's a counseling opportunity done one on one for an hour period each time.

How do I know if I should try this: "How do I get to know God?... I want to pray more deeply but need help…. I need to be accountable…. Is this all there is?... I want more of God but don’t know how…."

These are some of the questions which are addressed.

Who is this for? Anyone, at any time who would like to have someone walk their faith journey with them.

Main goal: to help people become aware of the mystery of God’s presence and action in their daily experiences, and to assist them in making a fuller and freer response to God.

How is this done? through prayer focused on Scripture primarily and on spiritual pathways (nature, music, service, etc…)

Details: I usually meet for an initial interview to determine if this is what is wanted and needed. Subsequent meetings are held once a week in the beginning months at the church at a mutually acceptable time for one hour. These meetings can be as short as three months or last several years.
